Hi! I've been using Spectral DNC for quite some time now with average results but have just seen that there is a new version out, Spectral DNC-n which apparently does not have minoxidil, instead it has their new creation, nanoxodil. Has anyone used this and does anyone know if it is any better?

I am tempted to try it but if it is not minoxidil will I start shedding hair?

Hi Steve

I have no idea on either of these terms - I'm fortunate that i havent lost any hair, although its a possiblity due to family history, hopefully i'll just thin like mum has.

I didnt want you to feel ignored, so wanted to reply to wish you the best of luck with whichever way you go on this

Hi Steve,

Mr May has found himself shedding more than a few hairs over the past few years, probably more as a result of genetic male pattern baldness, but he hates the 'B' word and is very reluctant to discuss matters of such a personal nature. I did suggest he have his thyroid tested, in case it's something simple and hormonal causing the problem, but even that didn't go down well. He doesn't like visiting the doctor at the best of times, let alone go and discuss his receding hairline.

Why he finds this condition so embarrassing, I do not know. I would have thought it much more of a problem for women. (I would be devastated if I lost my locks.) Mr May, however, is convinced that he has inherited the unavoidable from his father. (He's no scientist, so I didn't bother mentioning to him that genetic tendencies for baldness seem to be carried on the 'X' chromosome, which is passed on by the mother.)

But I do always try to alleviate his worries by finding out about stuff, in the hope that I'm prepared to answer his every question and tend his every need. Minoxidil was one of those things I looked into, along with Finasteride.

Without getting too technical, Minoxidil has been around for years, originally used to try and help reduce high blood pressure. Hair growth was reported as a side effect and, from thereonin, it seems Minoxidril became the common denominator in most of the readily available pills, shampoos, lotions and potions associated with hair loss. There has been a great deal of research and development into why it works and how it might be made to work more effectively. Nanoxidil is a result of that research.

As the name implies - think nanotechnology - Nanoxidil is simply a smaller molecule that they hope will work faster. As far as I know, the jury is still out on it but it's being publicised as if it's the next 'big' thing.

Whatever you decide to do, please keep us posted.

Ok, just to update you, I have purchased the new Spectral DNC-n and am giving it a try. I have bought 6 months supply of Spectral DNC n so am going to be able to give it a proper shot.

The first thing I notice about the new Spectral DNC-n is that it seems to have a slightly different oily texture. It leaves your hair and scalp feeling a bit greasy, however on the flip side it does seem to spread around easier and therefore be easier to rub into the scalp.

I had noticed recently that I was getting dark circles under my eyes. I never realised until recently that this was a possible side effect of Minoxidil and since I started using the Spectral DNC-n (instead of the normal Spectral DNC I was previously using) my bags under my eyes seem to have gotten much better (no change in sleep pattern). Apparently the new DNC-n is supposed to have less side effects as it uses nanoxidil instead of Minoxidil, so maybe this is one of the improvements?

I looked for clarification of what is nanoxodil as opposed to minoxidil but there is nothign really on any of the packaging about it. I will carry on using it and update.

Steve,

Thanks for posting about this. I, for one, will follow your progress over the coming weeks and hear if this nano version is all it's cracked up to be.

Good luck with the results.

Edit - I came back to look for results

Well my Spectral DNC-n review continues... I have now been using Spectral DNC-n for my hair loss for a few months and I must say that Spectral DNC-n seems to be giving me much less side effects with regards to black bags under my eyes. I never knew that this was a side effect of minoxidil but now I've dumped the standard Spectral DNC and swapped to the DNC-n, I can really see the difference.

I can't really say whether Spectral DNC-n is actually regrowing my hair yet but I will continue my Spectral DNC-n review over the coming months. I bought 6 months supply so will use it all up and update on the way. If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to post and I'll be happy to help!

stevetyler, thanks for the Spectral DNC n review and keeping us up to date. I am getting pretty tempted to try this stuff as I have heard good things about it. Most places don't seem to stock it though, they just have the older stuff like standard Spectral DNC and DNC-L. Where exactly are you buying this from and how much is it?

I have found that it is really hard to get hold of Spectral DNC-n (most places just sell standard Spectral DNC). I found the best place which is cheapest and also fastest for delivery is here.
